On the morning of Wednesday, 2 September 2026, at the Senate, H.E. LY Chantola, Secretary of State of the Office of the Council of Ministers, Vice Chairman, and Secretary-General of the Legal Reform Committee (LRC), attended a meeting with the Senate’s 4th and 6th Commissions to review and study the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Commune/Sangkat Administration.
The meeting was led by H.E. Dr. Neang Phat, Chair of the Commission on Interior, National Defense, Civil Service, and Border Affairs, in cooperation with Lok Chumteav Chan Sotheavy, Chair of the Commission on Legislation and Justice, and representatives of the Royal Government of Cambodia, led by H.E. Abhisantibindit SAR Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
The meeting aimed to examine the Draft Law, which has the following key objectives: to ensure that the determination of leadership positions within Commune/Sangkat administrations is consistent with election results, reflecting the will of the people as voters and democratic principles; to strengthen the effectiveness of leadership and administration at the Commune/Sangkat level; to ensure unity and consistency in the implementation of administrative functions at the local level; to enhance the accountability and initiative of Commune/Sangkat administrative leaders; and to support the implementation of the decentralization and deconcentration reform program more effectively.
The meeting was attended by Excellencies, Lok Chumteavs, Chairs, Vice Chairs, Members, leaders, and representatives of the Senate’s Commission on Interior, National Defense, Civil Service, and Border Affairs and Commission on Legislation and Justice, as well as representatives of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
